Texas caps what you may recover for notification at $50 per vehicle (Tex. Occ. Code §2303.155; see also TDLR’s VSF fee page). The statute does not care how many letters it made you send.
The real arithmetic
Under the USPS rates effective July 12, 2026 (Notice 123), a certified letter with electronic return receipt runs $9.24 metered, $10.98 with the physical green card. A vehicle with one registered owner and one lienholder takes 2 rounds times 2 recipients: 4 certified letters, roughly $37 to $44 in postage alone. Add a per-letter service markup and the cap is underwater before the second round mails.
What this means for a yard
Every dollar of markup on the notice process comes out of a capped line.
